Use the right frame of this page to specify options that control the appearance and behavior of menus and submenus. A menu appears on the topmost level of a menu hierarchy, as shown in the left frame of this page. There is only one menu per hierarchy. A submenu is simply a menu called by another menu or submenu. A submenu appears as a hypertext link on its parent menu. Links also appear on menus and submenus. An end user can click a link to jump to an OracleAS Portal portlet or another URL.
Menus and submenus appear in the hierarchy as
icons , whereas links appear as
icons.
In the hierarchy shown in the first figure below, My Menu is a menu, Sub1 and Sub2 are submenus, and Link1 and Link2 are links. The hierarchy creates a menu similar to that shown in the second figure.
The buttons that appear to the right of each menu, submenu, or link in the hierarchy indicate the actions you can perform on it:
Note: You cannot delete a menu (the top level of the hierarchy).
Each menu, submenu, and menu item in the right frame is displayed as a hypertext link. Click the link to edit the menu, submenu, or menu item. When you click the link, the right frame displays a different set of options depending on whether you are editing a menu, submenu, or link.
The options shown below are for editing a menu or submenu. You can update these options by typing a new value in a corresponding entry field. Click Finish when you have completed all of your updates.

Preview Template | Click to view the appearance of the template currently selected in the Template list. |

Inherit from portlet | Select to create a menu where all the menu items and submenus inherit their security from the menu portlet itself. This means that all end users with Execute privileges on the menu portlet automatically have Execute privileges on every menu item and submenu in the menu hierarchy. If the menu portlet inherits its privileges from its provider, then the menu items and submenus will in turn inherit those same privileges. Clear this check box if you want to establish different levels of security for the menu items and submenus in this menu. Clearing the check box enables you to choose the users and groups to whom you want grant Execute privileges for each menu item and submenu. Clicking a search result navigates to the menu containing the text. |
Show Frame View Icon | Select to display a frame icon on the template when the template includes the #FRAMELINK# field. When an end user clicks the frame icon, the menu is displayed in frame mode. |
